The Discovery Engine is a powerful idea generation tool that helps you find new stock or ETF candidates similar to those you already like. Whether you're building a watchlist or looking for fresh opportunities aligned with your strategy, the Discovery Engine helps surface ideas based on similarity to a stock you select.
This feature is available exclusively to Power Gauge PRO and higher-tier subscribers.
Access the Discovery Engine by clicking the Discovery Button at the top of the page. Use the search box to search for a ticker.
What the Discovery Engine Does
The Discovery Engine works by identifying stocks or ETFs that share important characteristics with the one you’ve entered. Once you type in a stock or ETF, the tool will automatically generate a list of all Discovery categories available for that symbol. You simply choose the list type you want to explore.
The engine analyzes and compares across a variety of criteria, including:
Industry Group and Sector – Identifies companies in the same or similar GICS classifications.
Power Gauge Rating and Factors – Matches stocks with similar overall ratings or strength in areas like Earnings, Financials, Technicals, or Expert Activity.
Chaikin Buy/Sell Signal Activity – Finds stocks that have recently triggered similar technical signals.
Volatility Profile – Includes stocks with comparable historical price swings.
Price Behavior and Trends – Considers how stocks behave relative to long-term and short-term trends.
Money Flow and Relative Strength – Includes stocks with similar patterns in accumulation/distribution and performance vs. the market.
ETF Theme/Exposure – For ETFs, compares category, holdings overlap, and index structure.
These comparisons go beyond surface-level similarities and help you uncover stocks and ETFs with aligned characteristics that fit your strategy. It doesn’t just find companies in the same industry—it looks for stocks with similar behavior and profile across Chaikin’s most important metrics.
How to Access the Discovery Engine
You can access the full Discovery Engine by navigating to the Discovery tab on the Analytics platform menu.
From there:
Enter a stock or ETF symbol.
View the resulting list of similar names and select which type of Discovery you want to investigate (e.g., "Stocks like", "Same Industry").
Each result includes the ticker, company name, Power Gauge Rating, and industry—along with quick tools to:
View the full stock page
Add the name to a Watchlist or Portfolio
Typing a ticker in the search box will allow you to view the Discovery results for that company.
Discovery Preview on Stock Pages
If you're a Power Gauge PRO subscriber or above, you’ll also see a Discovery Preview when viewing any stock’s page on the main site. This shows a short "Stocks like [symbol]" list directly below the main chart.
This preview provides a quick way to explore related names without leaving your current view.

Tips for Using the Discovery Engine
Use Discovery as a starting point to explore new sectors or refine existing watchlists.
Combine Discovery results with the Pre-Trade Checklist to vet ideas quickly.
Move any Discovery list into the Screener for custom filtering based on your strategy.
Repeat Discovery from different angles: Try "Stocks Like X" and then "Same Industry" to get a fuller picture.
